June 12, 2025 - Driving to Alaska
Emerald Lake, Yoho National Park

This is a map of Yoho National Park, just west of Banff National Park and Lake Louise, which we would be visiting this afternoon.  The Trans-Canada Highway and the original Canadian Pacific Railroad runs through it.

Our first stop in Yoho NP would be Emerald Lake.

Here's a map of Emerald Lake.  Our task would be to follow the lakeshore trail counter-clockwise around the lake.  Parking was no problem.

Our first look at Emerald Lake; it is aptly named.

Canoers are enjoying the lake.

Some of the trail in the hike's first half was pretty muddy.

Looking across the lake.  We wondered what caused the treeless gap on the mountain.  Later we would find out it was caused by an avalanche.

Pretty country.

No inclines on this trail.  Carpenter's dream:  flat as a board.

Looking up at the area where the avalanche came down.

Looking across the lake at Emerald Lake Lodge.  It would be a nice place to stay, I would think.

Yay, Emerald Lake!
